About Us

Celebrating 30+ Years of Growth, Community Service... and FUN

We started in 1989 with:

  • 5 members

  • no club layout(s), no official club room

  • few visitors, no public events

  • no community outreach

  • little public recognition, awareness

Today we are proud to have:

  • 70+ members—men, women and families

  • 5 layouts, 2,800 square-feet of club space

  • 2,000+ visitors a year from U.S. and abroad

  • involvement in regional events, charities

  • earned hobby awards, media coverage

From humble beginnings we have grown considerably over the years, not just in size and space but in people – key to the future of our hobby. Today our members are a mix of active collectors with train layouts, experienced modelers and authors, newcomers to the hobby, and others who simply enjoy learning and talking about railroading. We meet weekly to run trains, build models, watch videos, have clinics and share experiences. Yet this is only a part of our story.

Our club mission is to “grow awareness of, and interest in, model railroading within the community.” To do this, we operate our five scale layouts (G, O, S, HO, N) during annual “Open Houses” on Wednesday evenings in July and August and on Saturday afternoons in December. Admission is free. Visitors are always welcome at club work sessions on the second, third, and fourth Fridays of every month from 7-9 p.m.

In addition we have hosted model train displays in the Orleans area and at the Barnstable County Fair, and participated in town events (parades, holiday festivities). We work with area businesses, museums and organizations to promote model railroading and, supported by member dues and visitor contributions, we donate train sets annually to needy children. As a result, our club/hobby has been honored with awards and frequent coverage in local media and on the Web.

We do all of this because we so enjoy the hobby and want to have FUN sharing it. You, too, can join us -- memberships are available. Just ask any club member or go to our Membership page for more information.
